America's Cup (video) cancels spring World Series race in New York to focus on summer of sailing
America's Cup Discovered takes you on a journey through time and technology. We get an all time exclusive when we got invited to spend a day on the water with Ted Turner, as he reforms his 1977 victorious 'Courageous' crew to commemorate this win 35 years ago. We then take a leap into the future to see how some of the technology has evolved in our sport since those Newport, Rhode Island days. The award winning LiveLine team bring impressive graphics to our screens and make watching sailing an enjoyable and understandable experience.
America's Cup cancels spring World Series race in New York to focus on 'summer of sailing' - San Jose Mercury News: "America's Cup organizers have canceled a spring World Series regatta in New York on smaller boats to focus on the main event -- The Louis Vuitton Cup and the America's Cup Finals -- for the big boats this summer in San Francisco Bay. The America's Cup Event Authority pulled the plug on the New York regatta after discussions with the summer competitors, Oracle Team USA, Sweden's Artemis, Emirates Team New Zealand and Italy's Luna Rossa. . . . The three challengers will compete in the Louis Vuitton Cup beginning July 4. The winner will take on defender Oracle, which won the Cup in 2010 and the right to bring it home to San Francisco, in the America's Cup finals beginning Sept. 7. . . While the Naples regatta (in April) will proceed as planned, event organizers cancelled the races planned for late May and early June on the Hudson River in New York. The America's Cup World Series is a circuit separate from the America's Cup and sailed in the smaller AC45 class boats. . . . "
Captain's Log - Alex Thomson: "The conditions out here are lovely" - Vendée Globe 2012-2013: ""I’m a very happy man this morning. The conditions out here are lovely, around 17.5 degrees Celsius in the cabin and the sun is out. After changing my thermals yesterday I’ve now changed again and am into my warm weather clothing for the first time in good few weeks, which is great. For the first time in a while I think everyone back home is jealous of the my weather! The winds are pretty light at the moment, which provides a good opportunity to carry out maintenance work and routine checks around the boat before it fills in again later today. I’m very happy with my current position."" ...
