Golding: “Is Le Cam Missing A Sail?” - Vendée Globe 2012-2013: "There are duo and trios all over the fleet, having their races within a race, but Francois Gabart (MACIF) is not in an ocean match race with Armel Le Cléac’h (Banque Populaire) anymore. Expected to cross the equator on Tuesday around midday, Gabart is on his own 274 miles in the lead and apparently drawing away again on Monday afternoon, averaging 17.4 knots to Le Cléach’s 14.9 in the last four hours. He is enjoying the southeast tradewinds, whereas Le Cléach is reaching in less favourable easterlies 350 miles off the north coast of Brazil."
French sailing family cozy and iced-in off of Arctic Canada | Alaska Dispatch: " . . . The family's vessel, the Vagabond, is now frozen in ice in the bay. It's a 15-metre (50-foot) polar yacht captained by Eric Brossier. He has a unique crew made up of his wife and two daughters, who are three and five years old. This is the second year the family has spent in Grise Fiord, but Brossier and his family are no strangers to living on a boat in the Arctic. They also spent five years on a boat near Spitsbergen, which is an island in the Norwegian Arctic. Brossier's eldest daughter was only 12 days old when her parents first brought her on board. "Our neighbours were really the polar bears. I think we saw 800 polar bears in five years so it was not many people," he said. . . ."
