Extreme Sailing Series in Qingdao, China, Day 3 (video) - Leigh McMillan definitely had his mojo back, winning two of the four races to overhaul Alinghi's 14 race reign at the top of the leaderboard after a thick fog temporarily stalled proceedings this morning. The battle on the rest of the leaderboard was even more tense and after another testing light wind day, only 11 points separate positions three to eight at close of play as the battle lines are drawn for tomorrow's final showdown.

By finishing second, the Raiders qualified for the Mallory Cup, the national championship regatta for high school sailing in the two-person C420 class. The Mallory Cup National Championship is in Chicago. The district tegatta included schools from Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and the Caribbean. A crowd of 53 was able to find it, however, and enjoyed the first Wednesday morning racing of the season, which runs through October. Diehlmann was quick to credit Mary Hollenbaugh, the club's secretary, for the smooth and efficient manner in which the races were run and scores were kept. After watching the boats race around three buoys on the 3-acre surface of Lake Charles, which is 7 feet deep, spectators also had an opportunity to pilot a boat themselves."
