Chicago, Lake Michigan to host America's Cup qualifying races in 2016 - Chicago Tribune: "... The Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series qualifying races will take place next summer in Chicago the weekend of June 11-12, officials announced Tuesday. It is the first time in the 165-year history of the America's Cup that an event will be held on fresh water. Two 25-minute races are slated each day, featuring teams from Sweden, Great Britain, New Zealand, Japan, France and the defending champions, Oracle Team USA. The course will start and finish off Navy Pier, with speedy catamarans following a path toward Northerly Island. Tod Reynolds, director of the Chicago event, said that June weekend was chosen because it had the "best probability of good winds." The challengers are competing for a chance to take on Oracle Team USA in the America's Cup finals, a match race scheduled for June 2017 on the Great Sound of Bermuda..." (read more at link above)
